The future is bright for the historic Westminster Train Depot. After a devastating fire almost leveled this structure in 2006, there was much speculation as to whether any historically significant architectural features could be salvaged and used on a reconstructed depot – if the structure could be repaired, or if demolition was necessary. The Town, working with DP3 Architects, is currently evaluating the structure with the hopes of maintaining this prominent landmark.

“The restoration plans will serve to expand the previous uses of the depot to allow for more meeting space, a visitor center and public restrooms. These changes will help to increase the utilization of this facility by our citizens and those visiting Westminster”, said Mayor Derek Hodgin of the project. “I can’t wait for this important City icon to return to its historic glory and serve the citizens of Westminster. This will be a facility that we can all use, enjoy and be proud of. It will also be a strong testament to our City’s railroad heritage.”

Currently, DP3 Architects is evaluting the historic options and working on schematic concepts for restoration of depot while Trehel Corporation is working on the project budget. Says Mayor Hodgin, “I look forward to working with Trehel and DP3 on this exciting project. I believe that this team will provide an excellent blend of quality construction, value and historic restoration experience to this project.”
