DP3 receives 2010 Historic Preservation Honor Award

DP3 Architects, LTD recently received a 2010 Historic Preservation Honor Award, given by The Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation. The award was given for the Westminister Train Depot Restoration.

The depot was constructed circa 1912 and played an integral role in the life in Westminster. Although rail service ended in Westminster in April 1970, the depot remained a viable cultural center by housing the Chamber of Commerce and hosting the long running South Carolina Apple Festival.

When the depot was nearly destroyed by fire in January 2006, its viability was questioned. Through the concerted efforts of many in and around Westminster, the decision was made to restore the depot, allowing it to regain its prominence in the history of Westminster.

DP3 Architects Selected to Provide Design Services for ReWA in the Historic Pelham Mills Office

DP3 Architects, Ltd. has been selected by ReWA to provide design services for renovations, repairs, and restoration of the historic 1890’s Pelham Mills office building. The mill was a cotton factory located on the Enoree River and operated under several different owners between 1820 until 1935. The mill complex burned in 1943. The office is the only piece of the mill that remains intact. The mill site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, and according to the registration form, offers the most significant archeological content of any antebellum mill in Greenville County.

DP3 Architects, established in 1984 and headquartered in Greenville with an additional studio in Beaufort, SC, is an architectural firm specializing in restaurant, higher education, historic adaptive reuse, local government, and recreation projects.

DP3 Architects Selected to Provide Design Services for a New Office for Pelham Links Family and Cosmetic Dentistry

As part of a Design-Build team with SYS Constructors, Inc., DP3 Architects, Ltd. has been selected to design and construct the newest office for Pelham Links Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. The new facility will be located on West Georgia Road in Simpsonville and will provide six patient operatories and one surgical suite. Amenities will include a VIP Waiting Room, Children’s Waiting Room, and a Café. One of the Waiting Areas features a water wall. The building will encompass 7,600 square feet and has been designed with a warm rustic timber truss and rock exterior with a relaxing spa-like interior. Construction is set to begin in March.

DP3 Architects Selected to Provide Design Services for the New C. C. Woodson Recreation Center

DP3 Architects, Ltd. and Harper Corporation have just completed the design and construction of Phase I of the C. C. Woodson Recreation Center in Spartanburg, SC. The new 28,000 square foot state-of-the art recreation facility is scheduled to open in February. The facility includes a double gym, wellness center, senior center, community room, teen center, and administrative support space. Design has also just been completed for Phase II of the project and is set to begin construction this month. Phase II includes the construction of a new multi-use pool at the facility. The pool includes 3 swimming lanes, zero-depth entry, and water play elements. Future amenities will include a raintree and a water slide. The pool is scheduled to be open in June in time for summer.

DP3 Architects Selected to Provide Design Services for the Restoration and Renovation of Historic Westminster Train Depot

DP3 Architects, Ltd. provided research, design and construction administration services for the restoration and renovation of the historic Westminster Train Depot in Westminster, SC. The depot was constructed circa 1912 and played an integral role in the life in Westminster. Although rail service ended in Westminster in April 1970, the depot remained a viable cultural center by housing the Chamber of Commerce and hosting the long running South Carolina Apple Festival.

A grand opening ceremony was held October 11th celebrating the restored and renovated depot. The building houses the Westminster Chamber of Commerce and be available for use by other city and county organizations.

DP3 Architects Selected to Provide Design Services for a New Recreation Center in the Town of Cheraw, SC

DP3 Architects, Ltd. was selected to provide design and construction administration services for a new recreation center for the Town of Cheraw. The new facility will be 33,600 square feet and include a multi-activity gym, gymnastics training gymnasium, support spaces, lockers rooms, and the recreation department administration offices. Future phases will accommodate an outdoor pool and second gymnasium.

The new facility will be located within the Arrowhead Park Recreation Complex in the Town of Cheraw, SC. The recreation center is currently scheduled to be completed and open to the public in early 2011.

A long range plan will be developed to utilize the campus sites more efficiently and implemented to address the housing needs for the recent surge and long term growth in student enrollment.

DP3 Architects announces LEED AP Certification

Adam D. Roberts LEED AP, Brian S. Thomas, AIA LEED AP, Meg Terry, AIA LEED AP, and Anna King, AIA LEED AP, have successfully completed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System exam and have achieved the title of LEED Accredited Professional.

Adam is a 2005 graduate of Clemson University with a BA degree in Architecture. Mr. Roberts is a Design Team Leader of the Brain Fries Studio which specializes in the design of restaurant projects. He has been with DP3 Architects for three years.

Mr. Thomas is an Associate with DP3 Architects and is the studio leader for Brain Fries which specializes in the design of restaurant projects. He has over nine years experience as an architect and has been with DP3 Architects for 16 years.

Meg, an Associate with DP3 Architects, is the Studio Leader for 3 Degrees Studio which specializes in the design of higher education projects. She is the Architect in charge of the DiGiorgio Campus Center at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. The studio is also providing services to Clemson University for the Doug Kingsmore Stadium Addition and to South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg, SC on the Herbert Center project.

Anna is a design team leader in the Urban Cowboys Studio whose emphasis is on local government projects. She is currently leading the team on the Fountain Inn Historical Center project in Fountain Inn, SC.

DP3 Architects Selected to Provide Design Services for Addition to the Doug Kingsmore Baseball Stadium at Clemson University

DP3 Architects, Ltd. and SYS Constructors, Inc. have been selected by Clemson University to provide Design/Build services for the Chapman Grandstands, a 1,000 seat stadium seating addition for the Doug Kingsmore Baseball Stadium. The project will include concessions areas, restroom facilities, concourse area, and a new Champion’s Entry Courtyard. The project will be completed for opening day of the 2010 baseball season.
