GCRD Administration Building
Greenville County Recreation District strives to be a leader in providing diverse, dynamic, and ever-improving recreational opportunities in a sustainable manner. Their new administrative headquarters, designed by DP3 Architects, is testimony to this mission.
The open, high-bay, exposed-structure construction featured throughout the main floor of the 8,400-square-foot building allows the interior spaces to be flooded with natural light harvested through large expanses of high-performance exterior glazing which are protected from the harsh summer sun by long roof overhangs.
Natural materials abound both inside and outside the building to emphasize the connectivity with the outdoors associated with a parks and recreation agency as well as reinforce an awareness of local materials and conservation of natural resources. Other sustainable initiatives integrated into the facility include:
- Water-saving plumbing fixtures
- High-SEER HVAC systems
- Energy-efficient lighting systems and controls
- Minimal site-lighting aimed at reducing energy consumption and nighttime light pollution
