Simpsonville Municipal Complex

Simpsonville, SC

Municipal centers are the front porches of our communities. These public buildings bring people together and capture the individual character of the cities they serve.

DP3 Architects partnered with the City of Simpsonville to design a new Municipal Complex that serves as a symbol of civic pride and a catalyst for continued community growth. The complex brings together essential city services on one campus, including Simpsonville’s new City Hall, Police Department, Fire Station Headquarters, and Magistrate and Municipal Court. The collocation of these departments improves operational efficiency and provides a more accessible and welcoming experience for residents and visitors.

The design was developed in conjunction with the redevelopment of Gracely Park, which includes two new turf multipurpose fields, a playground, tennis, pickle ball, and basketball courts, frisbee golf, a dog park, picnic shelters, restroom and maintenance buildings, and a great lawn and amphitheater. Together, these projects promote a vibrant and connected civic core, one that supports recreational activity, fosters civic pride, and strengthens community bonds.

Drawing inspiration from the materials and scale of the existing downtown buildings, the campus was designed to be a modern expression of tradition. The use of brick, glass, and metal paneling created a cohesive connection to the heart of Simpsonville, while clean lines and contemporary detailing reflect the city’s momentum and growth.

Sidewalks and clear site lines throughout the campus create connectivity to the park and support the overall access and approachability to the facilities.  This balance of tradition and progress in the design establishes the complex as a meaningful civic landmark that feels both familiar and modern.

The new Simpsonville Municipal Complex stands as a testament to intentional design and forward-thinking municipal planning. It not only meets the functional needs of a growing city but also provides a strong architectural presence that reflects the heart and values of the community it serves.
