Fire Station HQ

Surfside Beach, SC

The town of Surfside Beach, SC, situated directly on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, had determined that the 1970’s pre-engineered structure housing their fire safety operations and emergency operations center had outlived its useful life and needed to be replaced.

The Town commissioned DP3 Architects to provide the expertise necessary to plan and design a new fire headquarters and emergency operations center to replace the existing facility. The final design response was a 14,500-square-foot, two-story facility which encompasses: Four drive-through fire apparatus bays, Cascade room, gear and equipment storage, and de-con area, Emergency Operations Center, Administrative offices, Classrooms, Dorm/living quarters, Exercise area, and Emergency electrical power generation system. Although the Town elected not to pursue LEED certification, sustainable design principals, materials, and building systems where practical, were incorporated into of the building design.
