MetroConnects is one of the largest wastewater collection providers in South Carolina, serving more than 106,000 customer accounts and maintaining 1,500 miles of wastewater collection infrastructure throughout Greenville County. As the region continued to grow, MetroConnects recognized the need to replace its aging facilities with a modern campus that could bring together its administrative, operations, and maintenance teams while supporting future expansion.
DP3 Architects partnered with MetroConnects to design a new, 23-acre headquarters in Mauldin, South Carolina. The campus features a modern administrative building, an operations and maintenance facility, and covered fleet storage. By centralizing these previously fragmented departments, the design creates greater operational efficiency while improving communication and cross-departmental coordination. Sustainable design principles were integrated throughout the campus, including durable, high-performance building materials, enhanced thermal envelope strategies to improve energy efficiency, and a thoughtfully designed landscape that supports both environmental stewardship and employee wellness.
Administrative Building
Located along West Butler Road, the administrative building establishes a strong public presence for the MetroConnects. The building’s contemporary design includes expansive windows and insulated polished concrete masonry units, complemented by wood-look aluminum panel accent that ties into the building’s lobby, creating a warm and inviting first impression. The transparency of the exterior reflects the organization’s commitment to serving the community while maximizing natural daylight throughout the workplace.
Inside, the facility was thoughtfully designed to elevate the team member experience. Open and private workspaces, flexible huddle areas, and gathering spaces encourage communication across departments, while amenities such as an on-site fitness center, dedicated yoga studio, and walking trail help promote employee well-being. The result is a workplace that not only supports MetroConnects’ daily operations but also strengthens its ability to attract and retain top industry talent.
Operations and Maintenance
The operations and maintenance facility serves as the backbone of MetroConnects’ field operations. Designed to maximize efficiency, the building includes a fleet maintenance shop, secure vehicle storage, offices, locker rooms, break areas, and employee fitness facilities. The facility provides dedicated space for maintaining specialized equipment and vehicles, ensuring rapid deployment and reliable service across Greenville County. A strategically planned equipment storage shed was also incorporated into the campus master plan, with the flexibility to expand in future phases as MetroConnects continues to grow and operational demands increase.
The MetroConnects Campus Headquarters represents a significant investment in the future of Greenville County’s infrastructure. By uniting people, equipment, and operations within one campus, the project positions MetroConnects to continue delivering reliable service while supporting innovation, growth, and operational excellence for decades to come.
